Apple is making major changes to the scope of its Siri virtual assistant. It will now get a new gender-neutral voice.
Apple has invented a new voice for Siri. It is available in the beta version of iOS 15.4 and does not sound male or female. This decision is another step against criticism that digital assistants historically reinforce gender stereotypes. As it turns out, for many abroad, the voices of assistants meant that women had to submit to all demands and resist any verbal abuse. For this study, it has been pointed out that such assistants also have a slightly “flirtatious” manner of speech.
So Apple decided to respond to such criticism practically. Siri’s voice could have been changed before – more voice options were introduced, as well as the fact that it was not a female voice by default. Now the Cupertino company has gone even further, and the AI assistant will be gender-neutral.
