AMD has announced the completion of its largest acquisition in the chip industry. The well-known processor and graphics card maker has absorbed Xilinx, a company known for its FPGA logic circuits. Red boasts that through the purchase they will be able to significantly expand their product portfolio as well as develop technology.

Xilinx, known for its extensive knowledge and experience in the FPGA market, will be renamed Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group (AECG). It will be led by current CEO Victor Pan. The company will continue to design and build the aforementioned FPGAs, embedded systems and adaptive SoCs. These solutions should help AMD expand its operations, including in the cloud and peripheral market.

AMD also says that once the company is incorporated, the scale of research and development should increase, and the company’s financial model itself will be strengthened. Red will have access to more revenue sources. The purchase itself is a key in the fight against Intel, which has long been using the solutions of the company it acquired Altera. After the merger, the Reds will employ a total of about 15,000 people.
