People who have decided to order a Starlink satellite Internet starter kit will now be able to choose a new terminal model to receive the service. The classic round antenna is now joined by a smaller rectangular antenna, but so far only in the USA.
Along with the development of Starlink’s satellite Internet network, the number of service users is also growing, and as we learn today, new customers will be able to choose between the two models of dishes. The Verge website reports that SpaceX has applied for and received certification of the new device from the FCC so we can learn some details about the hardware.
The new antenna, first of all, is smaller than the previous one, measuring 50 x 30 cm, while the first model had a diameter of 58.9 cm. We also managed to significantly reduce its weight, and instead of 7.3 kg we have only 4.2 kg. It is interesting that we are talking about parameters similar to the antennas that competitors want to offer, and in particular the Project Kuiper from Amazon.
